Mountain Association Provides List of Resources for Businesses, Organizations, and Individuals Impacted By Floods
The following information was provided to the Chamber by the Mountain Association:
Our hearts go out to all those impacted by the devastating floods that hit Eastern Kentucky in the early morning hours last Thursday. Even while grieving the loss of loved ones and homes, Eastern Kentuckians are inspiring people across the world with what it means to care for each other. From kayak rescues and horseback deliveries, to thousands of hot meals prepared and mud shoveled, the efforts are immense.
Much is needed as we work to recover from this tragedy. We hope to be a resource for our mountain communities in this time. Please reach out to us with any questions and we will help you find the answers.

Resources for Businesses & Organizations
- Businesses and nonprofits with flood damage can receive funds from insurance policies and FEMA, and low interest loans from the Small Business Administration (SBA).
- Disaster Unemployment Assistance is also available.
- The SBA has set up Business Recovery Centers in Hazard, Manchester, and Whitesburg through August 20 to help people apply for SBA disaster relief loans. Our organization is helping staff those centers.
- Because we know these options may take many days to sort through and get funds in your account, the Mountain Association has emergency loans for up to $5,000 that can help cover expenses now
- Nonprofit agencies are beginning to offer grants, including one for $10,000 grants for restaurants, and $250 for households from the Foundation for Appalachian Kentucky, with more to come for small farms and businesses.
- We have links to all these options on this webpage and will continue to share there and via our social media in the coming days.
Resources for Individuals
- Whether you are in need of supplies, shelter, or a crisis clean-up crew of volunteers, you can find it on this up-to-date list from our partners at Appalshop.
- Mental health resources are here.
Ways to Support
There’s a way for everyone to help:
- Donate money through EKY Mutual Aid, the Foundation for Appalachian Kentucky, the state crisis fund, and more.
- Donate supplies at one of many locations throughout the state.
- Foster animals who were in the shelters prior to the floods as shelters help care for displaced pets.
- All of these options are outlined on this resource page.
