Kentucky Blood Center – Business of the Week
Kentucky Blood Center is a not-for-profit community blood bank dedicated to ensuring a safe, adequate blood supply for patients at nearly 70 Kentucky hospitals and clinics in more than 60 counties in southern, central and eastern Kentucky. KBC relies on volunteer blood donors to collect 400 pints of blood per day to meet the needs of area patients.
KBC has a new state-of-the-art donor center in Stonegate Centre in Somerset at Stoplight 16-A. KBC also has donor centers in Lexington and Pikeville and conducts numerous blood drives throughout the region every day. Donors must be at least 17-years-old (16 with parental permission), be in general good health and have a photo I.D.
More than half of all blood donations come from blood drives organized and hosted by volunteers at businesses, churches, schools and community centers. Blood drives can be set up inside a building or conducted on a bloodmobile in a parking lot. For information about hosting a blood drive, visit kybloodcenter.org.
