FRANKFORT, KY (October 17, 2023) — As lawmakers continue preparing for the 2024 Legislative Session, which will include enacting a new two-year state road plan, Senate Transportation Committee Vice Chair Brandon Storm, R-London, shares an update on progress from the 2022-2024 state road plan.
Laurel County
Construction funding totaling $36,628,350 was awarded to improve safety, access management, and freight mobility by reducing congestion on KY Highway 192 to US Highway 25 in London. The project is underway, and improvements are being completed. To stay current on road closures and traffic pattern changes due to construction, follow the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet’s (KYTC) Highway District 11 office on Facebook and X, formerly Twitter.
“I appreciate all the hard work of those with the Highway District 11 office who are seeing this project, and countless others, through to its end,” Storm said of the Laurel County project.
Rockcastle County
Funds have been authorized for the design phase of a project addressing safety, mobility and congestion along US Highway 25 (Richmond Street) from the US Highway 25/US Highway 461 intersection to Interstate 75. This fund authorization means KYTC is working on proposed improvements for US Highway 25. Once the design is complete, the project will be ready to begin the right-of-way acquisition needed for further project efforts.
“I will advocate for additional funding to support this project in the upcoming biennial road plan,” Storm said of the US 25 project in Rockcastle County. “These first two steps (design and right-of-way) are essential in reaching the construction phase, and I am committed to seeing the project through. I want to thank the Highway District 8 office for the work it is doing—and will do—to improve US 25.”
Statement from Senator Storm
“I’m grateful we secured funding in the road plan to improve roadways here in the 21st Senate District. Our region is growing, and our roads, bridges, and highways are critical infrastructure that directly impacts the daily lives of residents who call Laurel, Rockcastle and other counties in the 21st District home.
“From the flow of commerce to our children getting from home to school, transportation is one of the most critical responsibilities lawmakers have in Frankfort.
“It’s a blessing to serve as vice chair of the committee that takes the lead on crafting the state road plan.”
